Ethiopia : Kossa Geshe Moata Special
Location: Ethiopia, Limmu Kossa
Process: Natural, Raised Beds
Cup Notes: Limeade, nectarine, wild berry tea
An incredibly unique cup beaming with complexity. Though naturally processed, this bean produces a surprisingly clean cup with an almost pineapple kombucha-like sparkling acidity, a ripe peach’s juiciness, and a raspberry-like balance of sweet and tart.
Kossa Geshe partnered with our importer, Moata from Crop to Cup, to experiment a brand-new processing method for the farm. The team took a small percentage of their normal harvest and separated the ripe cherries to dry on raised beds, as opposed to their typical drying process with tarps on the ground. The raised beds allowed for increased ventilation, rotation, and slowed drying on the cherries. Incredibly, this first ever microlot scored the highest cup compared to the rest of the harvest!
The story of Kossa Geshe is one of a meteoric rise. While the coffee speaks for itself, the farm has continually grown its investment to its community – building a school on the farm for children, establishing some of the finest worker housing in Ethiopian coffee, providing new hygiene stations, and implementing a ledger system for fair wage transparency. We are proud to continue partnering with Kossa Geshe as they strive to perfect their coffee and reinvest into their community.
